At the risk of sounding like I'm a bigot/racist (which I'm emphatically not), it is unfortunately not too terribly surprising that the country artists on Stax never got country radio airplay. It's kind of difficult, to put it mildly, to get airplay in a largely White Man's musical format when you aren't White, with one significant exception, that being Charley Pride. Even today, we have one female African-American artist in the country format, Mickey Guyton, who can't get arrested on country radio with a fairly straightforward country song, "Nice Things", co-written by Liz Rose, a frequent co-writer for Taylor Swift (and whose daughter, Caitlin, is a huge Linda Ronstadt fan).
Just the same, however, this is fascinating history that needs to be better known before it slips into the ether of history (IMHO).

Just a shout out for Paul Craft who was mentioned here. We all know him from Linda's recordings.

The Rules to Country Music Success (as far as I can tell): 1) Make crappy music 2) Don't have opinions abt anything 3) Have a penis

This is frankly a very revelatory review of a hugely unknown chapter in American music history, and one hopes that there will be more coming out of it.
