I'm looking for a video. I'm not sure if I originally saw it on Youtube ... a part of me thinks I found it on some Linda Ronstadt fanpage, that had lots of "extras" to download.
Anyway, it was just a short clip, and I remember it was of a young Linda wearing braids. She was eating something while an interviewer was talking to her. He asked her why she broke off with the Stone Poneys, and she paused mid-bite to say "We got hungry."
Does anybody have this video? Thanks!

Speaking of looking for vids, does anyone know or have Linda's first appearance on the Tonight Show in 1969? I've seen her subsequent appearances on there but would love to see this one.

I think we figured out that those old Carson shows may have been taped over didn't we? Too bad those in charge didn't have any foresight to see the goldmine they threw away. I think "In Concert" did the same thing. What a waste.

I think a lot of the old Tonight Show programs made before 1970 didn't survive the ravages of network decision makers. And Linda's first appearance on it was in July 1969, when Johnny still did the show at 30 Rock (they were done out of "beautiful downtown Burbank" beginning in May 1972).

I just saw this clip of Linda live in San Diego 1976.
The only other clip on youtube from this show is her performing Heatwave.
Can someone tell me the circumstances of this show? Why was it broadcasted? Who else is on the bill with her? I assume The Eagles according to the banner that the fans are holding in the clip? Looked like an incredible show to have seen live. I mean the crowd is huge!
Also is there video of her whole set?
Just curious.

I think part of this show was broadcast on The Howard Cosell Show. I think I recall Heat Wave being performed.

I think part of this show was broadcast on The Howard Cosell Show. I think I recall Heat Wave being performed. I believe Linda performed both Heat Wave and You're No Good on Cosell's show. I recall Cosell's introduction of Linda and Linda's performances were critcized by TV Guide's critic, Cleveland Amory. He slammed Cosell for introducing Linda as the nation's number one singer and asking aren't there any number twos? And then he slammed Linda on YNG, calling her terrible. I normally liked reading Amory's critiques of tv shows and while I agreed with him overall about Cosell as a variety show host, he went too far in his criticism of Linda. Strangely enough, I believe there was a photo of Linda with Amory at some function - think it was some sort of "save your pets" thing that was released some time after Amory's knock. I don't know if Linda was ever aware of the criticism or if she ever read TV Guide or if she by chance agreed with Amory about her performance. I'd almost be willing to bet she didn't know, given how busy she was at the time.

Wasn't his short lived show called Saturday Night and it was live so it got confused with the other new show called SNL? Boy, that was a long time ago.

Wasn't his short lived show called Saturday Night and it was live so it got confused with the other new show called SNL? Boy, that was a long time ago. I don't remember. I looked up his entry on the internet movie database (since they list tv shows as well as movies) and his tv show wasn't listed! Was it that short? As a host of a variety show, Howard was no Ed Sullivan, but then again, I wasn't much of a fan of old Stoneface either. Sullivan really disliked rock and rollers even though every time had them on, it was always a big boost for his ratings. I've read stories on him of how he'd get in a little dig or would barely conceal his contempt for certain rockers. Howard rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, which was pretty remarkable considering his long tv career. He probably didn't like rock and rollers either but with him, I can't recall him making any snide remarks about them.

Speaking of Ed Sullivan, I could swear I saw a clip of very young Linda singing Blue Bayou on his show a few years ago on line. Can't find any ref to it now. Was I dreaming???

Sullivan's show left the air circa 1971-72, a very long tie before Linda ever recorded "Blue Bayou." Also, Sullivan died in 1974. Funny, though, that Linda was one of a few acts who never appeared on Sullivan's show. Don't know why, unless it was because Linda was never approached to appear on Sullivan's "big shew" or if Linda had issues about appearing. Maybe you're thinking of some other show?

She was on TV quite a bit during that period of 1969-72, so it is kind of easy to think she was on a certain show when she really wasn't. Linda did appear on David Frost's show, I believe, in 1970, and on Mike Douglas' at least twice, in December 1969 and April 1971.

Linda was also on some weekly syndicated tv show from Houston, TX circa 1971-72, which featured her being interviewed by the host (some DJ from the Houston - think his first name was Larry, if I'm remembering right) and performing a song, which I think was either "(She's a) Very Lovely Woman" or maybe "Rock Me On The Water." I remember her talking about wanting to record James Taylor's "You Can Close Your Eyes," and I think she may even have performed that song on the show. It's odd that Linda was interested in the song but wouldn't record (or maybe release) a version of the song until the sessions for "Heart Like a Wheel." Maybe she recorded an early version but she (or Capitol) wasn't satisfied with the end result?

There is a lot of interest in these types of productions. Not all will have prominently Linda Ronstadt featured at all since her real heyday was in the 1970's although she had been part of the scene since the 1960's.rock·u·men·ta·ry (rŏk′yə-mĕn′tə-rē) n. pl. rock·u·men·ta·ries A documentary about rock music or rock musicians.I will begin with one that I don't believe has been produced yet: Topanga: The Rockumentarynarrated by Linda Ronstadt Produced by George Paige and Robby Krieger of "The Doors"Topanga, a music-fueled, theatrical documentary, will tell the inside story of the mystical mountain retreat and ocean paradise - Topanga Canyon, California. The story of Topanga will be driven by the MUSIC! The movie will boast a dynamic soundtrack of unforgettable songs and super-star artists of the times – a creative melding of folk, rock and savvy American pop. The music will be set, side-by-side to rare and never-before-seen film footage and photos obtained from private collections including the Topanga Historical Society.
The film features unforgettable scenes from classic Hollywood movies, lost musical performances and untold stories told through exclusive interviews with the celebrities, star actors, super-star musicians and the locals who lived it then, and call it home now.

Not a rockumentary per se but Linda makes an appearance in Frank Zappa's UNCLE MEAT:
Linda Ronstadt at 1:22:45 Don't blink.
Uncle Meat Full Movie Frank Zappa
Uncle Meat is a film written and directed by Frank Zappa, released directly to video in 1987. Principal photography having never been completed, the videocassette is actually a "making of" documentary showing rehearsals and background footage from 1968 and interviews with people involved with the uncompleted production. The video has not yet been released on DVD.
SUNSET STRIPSXSW 2012: Music Legends Take a Ride Down 'Sunset Strip' in Hans Fjellestad's Doc (Video)
1:22 PM PDT 3/12/2012 by Phil Gallo, Billboard
Slash, Clive Davis, Lou Adler and Ozzy Osbourne are among the participants of the documentary which will have its world premiere on Friday.
In Hans Fjellestad's Sunset Strip documentary, several of his talking heads declare the mile and a half stretch of Sunset Boulevard dead in 2005 after Tower Records closed. Clive Davis and Lou Adler eulogize the store's closing, Ozzy Osbourne rambles on about Tower's signature yellow "burning into your psyche" and Slash steps into a moment of acceptance saying "things change in this town."
Fjellestad says it's not unusual to write an obit for the strip. "Looking back through the L.A. Times and Herald Examiner it seems like every 10 or 12 years some one is saying it's dead," he says.
In his documentary, which has its world premiere Friday, Fjellestad starts with its roots as poinsettia fields and its designation as "the strip" owing more to the fact that it is the road that connects the studios of Hollywood with the homes of Beverly Hills. In the decades prior to the incorporation of West Hollywood, the Sunset Strip was in Los Angeles County but not the city, which led to nefarious characters financing and setting up a unique nightlife destination. It began with the likes of Ciro's and Trocadero, moved on to Pandora's Box and Whisky a Go-Go and today includes the Roxy and Key Club.
"I really wanted to look at themes of the times as opposed to focusing on the Doors, (the death of) John Belushi and Richard Pryor," he tells billboard.
STORY: 'The Daily Buzz,' Matthew Lillard and Just How Weird Austin Is
Fjellestad joined the project about 2-1/2 years ago after "a ton of research, a ton of writing and a ton of development" had been done including some great shots of the Sunset Strip riots of 1966. (Authors Harvey Kubernik and Domenic Priore are credited as the project's historians.) Shooting began in June 2010.

I think Linda should do more narrating projects. She has a nice inflection to her spoken voice and makes the subject she is discussing interesting. Maybe one day she can get a "Spoken Word" Grammy. The project with Ann for the radio programs I think was perfect for Linda. eddiejinnj

I think I mentioned before that Frank Zappa's father is Bob Keeshan aka Captain Kangaroo!!!!! i'm not sure if you're joking but, from Wikipedia: Zappa was born on December 21, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland. His mother, Rosemarie (née Collimore) was of Italian (Neapolitan and Sicilian) and French ancestry; his father, whose name was anglicized to Francis Vincent Zappa, was an immigrant from Partinico, Sicily,

I wasn't joking but I guess it came down maybe as a joke one time but somehow and I believe from more than one source years ago that they were father and son. I just checked and it seems there was rumor for yrs that Frank was the son of Mr. Greenjeans and that is not true and what Viking said is true. I guess it was like telephone and my info morphed from Mr. Greenjeans to the Capt himself. Thanks, Viking!!! One should learn something new every day!!! eddiejinfl

She sang backup on Sister Kate Taylor's version first. I bought the album when it was released for just that reason and thought Linda should record it too.

Just by chance I came upon the weirdest piece of Linda audio I’ve ever come across.I think this has possibly mentioned on the forum before & then deleted over the years.I found Linda’s audio recording of Uncle Meat by Frank Zappa on his YouTube site. There are so many videos of this on YouTube I haven’t had time to listen to them all & the overall concept is very strange. The bit where I first heard Linda is excerpt 1. Also found documentary called The Mayor of Sunset Strip about Rodney Bingeheimer which according to the credits at the end Linda appears in but as it’s over 1 hours 30 mins long I haven’t watched it yet. If anybody has any further info about these two projects I’d love to see it.Once I’ve had a chance to take in all the recordings I’ll perhaps be in a position to explain more about it.

Not to get too off subject but it seems that in 1987 a film was released right onto video of the making of the film "Uncle Meat" which was never finished and released. the making of videocassette is 1:30 mins long and it says Linda Ronstadt as herself on the cast list. There is no specific mention of her in the info on Wiki about the album itself. The Mayor of Sunset Strip, I have never heard of. Will try and look that one up too. I had read about Linda and the Uncle Meat project but forgot the particulars until I looked them up. All have a great day!!! If there is a thread on Linda and Zappa from the past maybe these posts can be transferred as new comments on subject by one of the other admnins. eddiejinfl
