I've always enjoyed watching American Idol, even during the season where they rejected all the singers I liked and had a Top 10 of the worst rejects imaginable. I look forward to the return. But I prefer talent shows to focus on the talent, not the celebrity judges. Might be different if they had celebrities I respected, but those are hard to come by.

That's one of the problems with shows like this, it seems to me. People are not really drawn to the talent, they're drawn in by the "celebrities". That was true of Idol when it was on Fox; it is true to a great extent with The Voice on NBC; and I don't think it'll be any different of ABC's version of Idol (IMHO).

I'll watch it, I'll enjoy it, I'll bellyache about it.

I read Idol still had the ratings but the celebrity judging salaries were through the roof and it was too expensive. I don't think all people are drawn just to the celebrity aspect.. People just want to be entertained.... ..I think many people, much like myself do watch for the talent and when we like a contestant commit to voting and purchase their music.. In the older days of American Idol Ryan Seacrest would announce on the show how many millions of votes in total tallied in. Those people are very dedicated to their favorite contestants. I know Linda doesn't care for the idea of American Idol but I think if they asked her she would make an excellent judge.. actually she would be a better mentor or coach.

No question that she would be incredible in the positions of either judge, mentor, or coach, because she has actually done what these contestants are trying to do, and she knows what it takes. But even if she agreed to do this, would viewers, many of whom probably aren't as familiar with Linda's reputation as the rest of us, really listen to her or take her seriously? I would hope they would, but viewers seem to want sensationalistic sound bytes, and Linda has never struck me as that kind of a person.

Latest Idol News -- Katy Perry & Ryan Seacrest Dianna, while I agree with you that Linda would make a great addition, I can't see her wanting to do this. I don't think she has the stamina health-wise to do this. Nor do I think Linda would like the competition aspects of these shows. That's my two cents.

Well, now that it would seem they have gotten Katy Perry onboard, that paper is taken care of; we may all have the ignominy of hearing her "Roar!" for weeks in primetime.
That said, though, if it were not under the circumstances of having to judge a competition, Linda would probably do whatever she could to be a mentor, especially knowing that she's been one from afar for many of her fellow female peers for decades.

If what is said in that Deadline Hollywood article is accurate, would we also be looking at somebody to fill in the role that Simon Cowell had--namely as the Chief High Executioner?
