Totally heartbreaking...I figured there had to be something else about Linda's health besides the diabetes and the thyroid problem that was forcing her into retirement.

When I saw this on MSN I burst into tears......my son and I were in a Mexican restaurant for lunch today prior to this news, and we heard one of your Canciones de Me Padre songs.....and I was SO DELIGHTED...I sat there happily eating and thinking how much I loved your voice....only a few hours later and I read this news--it is HEARTBREAKING.....I think I cried for 5 minutes. My heart and prayers go out to you. I can honestly say that your music has made a HUGE impact on my life.....not only your Canciones albums (I have both as well as DVD), but rock n roll, your Christmas album, as well as your work with Nelson Riddle, light Opera -- Gilbert & Sullivan work. Your voice was (absolutely breaks my heart to speak in past tense) AMAZING, and I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for the hours (and continued hours) of listening enjoyment. Be well and happy, and KNOW you are LOVED.
Sincerely,
Laurie Lindsey

I had figured that there was something worse that Linda was referring to in the interview, but this is more than I bargained for... all the best wishes to a very special artist and person, who I know will be fighting...

I'm trying very, very hard not to break down and cry at this news. I am almost crying just typing this. I can't believe this sad news. I never would have thought this in a million years. I'm just speechless. I don't know what to say. All I can say is I love you Linda and I'm praying for you.

all of our days are numbered. Linda has such a incredible legacy. Her music touched my life over the course of my 52 years at very significant points. Including my teen years, the birth of my son who I played her albums as I rocked him, his childhood ( I will never forget her appearance on Sesame Street doing the Caballero song) Her work with Emmylou and Dolly was beautiful and she was a credit to her genre doing Zevon's songs.

Of all the people who could have come down with this terrible thing, Linda is probably the last one I could have thought of. The fact that there is no way to recover from Parkinson's in any part of one's body, let alone the very voice she's relied on for her whole life, is almost more than any fan can take. And one can only guess how her peers must feel at hearing this kind of news.
I only wish her the best as she lives now with this condition. As sad as this is, we really should think of her in terms of the staggering, jaw-dropping career that she's had; the hits; the songs; the albums; the people she has worked with; the womenfolk she's influenced. I don't think it would be hyperbolic to suggest that comparisons with Elvis and the Beatles are in order now. Her level of influence is indescribable. We should always keep that in our hearts.
ALL THE BEST, LINDA.

WOW! I say this because my youngest sister was just diagnosed with Parkinson's. I was informed of my sister's condition a couple weeks ago. She has known for a couple months. This is a women at 52 Iron Man health nut. My sister's is coming on quickly, and now Linda... This really sucks! Now we know why Linda has had to stop singing professionally...I am remembering Jimmy Webb's comments on her retirement...his sadness of her doing so...I have wondered what it would be like when Ronstadt stopped singing professionally since she turned 40...I never even considered anything like this. The medications and treatment have come along way, I am praying for my sister and Ronstadt and I will every night. She has given us fans so much with her music and her spirit. Shocking to say the least.
Thank you Linda Ronstadt. Your music has been the soundtrack of my life. Your voice has filled my head since the age of eight and I am 48 now. When I am at the dentist or getting a shot, or having intense pain and want to take my mind off the pain I say your name over and over. That is how much your music has meant to me. Thank you for the music and your wonderfully strong spirit and guts. You have a boat load of fans here praying for you.

Of all the people who could have come down with this terrible thing, Linda is probably the last one I thought would fall prey to this. The fact that there is no way to recover from Parkinson's in any part of one's body, let alone the very voice she's relied on for her whole life, is almost more than any fan can take. ALL THE BEST, LINDA. Very well put, Erik. I also would hope now that the charalatans at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame would have a deep sense of guilt over not nominating and inducting her sooner, and do so now. It would be a very bittersweet to honor Linda while she is still able to acknowledge such an honor. It would also be a very bitter honor because she would not be able to perform her music. I just hope they don't wait too long to acknowledge Linda's contributions like they did with Donna Summer and some of the members of the Dave Clark Five. I had been very afraid for quite some time that something was more seriously wrong with Linda than just the diabetes and the thyroid problem, but I didn't want to say anything out loud. I kept hoping for the best and am still hoping for the best, but I am still just stunned over this news. Linda will be in my thoughts and prayers and hopefully, she will still be with us for quite some time. All my love, Linda, if by chance you are here in lurk mode.

I know she ended a recent interview with "she's happy." so that makes me feel a little bit better.

Heartbroken. The most gorgeous singing voice of the rock and roll generation. A heroine in ways many have yet to recognize. But for those of us who have always surrendered to her warm powerful song(even when she took us on some weird rides)this news is devastating. We are playing her albums on vinyl tonight.

This must be especially hard for someone whose singing was part of her daily life and not just a career. I wish her well and am thankful for all the wonderful wonderful music she has given us to treasure - listening to one of my favourites right now, Frenesì Attachments:

Linda is my Elvis or The Beatles.. and I do pray and hope for the best in terms of Linda's health.. what is even more heartbreaking like someone else here said.. to think of Linda and her singing voice in past tense.. I know she ended a recent interview with "she's happy." so that makes me feel a little bit better. Linda was and is, for me, the female Elvis. No other female performer ever came that close. Linda's career trajectory was different from the King's career trajectory, but the two were and are remarkably alike musically, in many respects. I still wish Linda had done a few movies because there's not that much on Linda video wise. As bad as Elvis's movies get knocked for being, they help in reminding people he was here, along with his music. That helps to keep people interested in Elvis, almost four decades after he left the building. Of course, I don't like thinking of Linda in the past tense as she is still with us and hope that she will be with us for a very long time. Her recordings are her legacy, and she sure sounds like she is happy and at peace with her soul. May God bless her during these days. (And the same for Mike, his younger sister and their family members.)

this is just mind-numbing and want to concentrate my thoughts and prayers for linda. I don't want at this point to really even examine what it means to me emotionally. numb at this point is my defense mechanism. I just go back to her duet with jimmy webb and that that song was her goodbye to that part of her life and maybe some self-acceptance that endings come so fast. she graciously told us all through her art. she has remained quite active even as of late and I sincerely admire that eddiejiinj

My thoughts and prayers are with you. My wife, Debbie sang gospel, and also has come down with Parkinsons, and like Linda, has lost her singing voice. So I know somewhat, what she is going through. Not being able to sing, when you have done it your whole life is beyond comprehension. As can be seen by the many responses on this board, lots of love is going your way Linda. My best to you and your family.

Shocking. I don't know what else to say really. I was about to read an online article about tennis player Caroline Wozniacki when I saw a link to another article on the right of my screen - "Linda Ronstadt diagnosed with Parkinsons." I was like, "WHAT!?!?!?" Very sad that this has to happen to not just such a fine singer but to such a fine human being. There is no justice in the world.

VERY SAD NEWS. HER MEMOIR MAKES MORE SENSE NOW, THAT SHE WOULD WANT TO REMINISCE ABOUT WHAT IS NOW NOT AVAILABLE TO HER. SHE REMAINS INVOLVED IN MUSIC, ESPECIALLY IN HER VOLUNTEER WORK WITH MUSIC WITH SCHOOL CHILDREN. I HOPE SHE HAS MANY MORE PRODUCTIVE YEARS. NO CURE, BUT THERE ARE TREATMENTS AND OPERATIONS THAT CAN HELP STAVE OFF WORSE SYMPTOMS. I AM SURE SHE WILL CONTINUE TO BE INVOLVED IN MUSIC IN SOME CAPACITY. PERHAPS NOW SHE SHOULD COMB THRU UNRELEASED RECORDINGS & ARRANGE THEM FOR RELEASE.. MAYBE SHE WILL BE MORE APPRECIATIVE OF HER PAST SINGING & LESS JUDGEMENTAL & BE MORE WILLING TO SHARE RECORDINGS SHE MAY HAVE IN THE PAST DEEMED NOT PERFECTED ENUFF FOR RELEASE.

I have tears in my eyes for our dear Linda. What a terrible thing to discover. I'm sure in some way it feels good to finally get an answer to what was wrong. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will cherish the many albums of your music. Hugs Ms Ronstadt
