I have an original poster from this concert (which I framed) given to me by Linda Ronstadt's mother. Lothar and the Hand People is the other group listed on the poster (as the warm up act).
correction: It was People and the Cage Carnier but I am fairly sure Lothar and the Hand People were on some of the bills with the Poneys. (I could be wrong)
I can't help but think Lothar and the Hand People inspired this guy. I wore this album out in my younger years:

Way cool. eddiejinnj I did mention it in the old forum. What I didn't know until now thanks to ausfan2 was that it was a poster for the last event the original Stone Poneys ever performed together making it even more special. Ruthmary must be smiling down about that just about now. She must have known but never mentioned it.

Can you possibly upload a pic of it? Please tell the story in a little more detail? I feel like a kid asking mommy or daddy to tell me a story lol!!!! I saw a SP Poster when I was looking for avatars for my profile here (I haven't forgotten about it again, yet). It was a likeness of the 3 of them in rt bottom corner kind of in a line and Linda was in front and her hair went up hippie/nouveau style to form the words "Stone Poneys". It was like an orange and black. Very Very period!!!! eddiejinnj

The poster is buried in storage at the moment. When I dig out of all the clutter I will photograph it.
Having already been a Ronstadt fan for a decade I arrived in Arizona mid 70's for my graduate work. I really lucked out and the stars aligned when in one of my required masters program classes I was randomly put into a small group of 3 other people. One was a wealthy and charming fellow New Yorker, the second was the wife of a famous disc jockey and the third happened to be Ruthmary Ronstadt's best (male) friend from Tucson. They had a close relationship and he spoke so fondly of her. So as a small group we talked a lot about music, Ruthmary and Linda and I dated the girl from New York briefly. I had compiled some rather large Ronstadt Scrapbooks that my friend said Ruthmary was quite interested in seeing. She even invited me a couple of times to come down for a visit. My new found friend took my scrapbooks to Ruthmary where they stayed for a few months. Not sure if Linda ever got to see them on her visits home but I think she might have. I later sent them to Tony when he was starting up his website for Linda but I guess they were too difficult to scan so not much made it onto his site. Anyway, Ruthmary sent me a very nice letter and later surprised me with the Stone Poneys poster which I immediately framed to protect it. It is a very 1960's silk screened poster for their performance at Palo Verde High School in Tucson. It was nice of her to do that. She said people (FOL) often showed up at her doorstep and she graciously invited them in and they always left with a trinket. She was enjoying the fame but Gilbert (Linda's dad) was less so inclined. Probably worried about a fan turning out to be crazy or problematic but not so with Linda's mom. She was very kind, generous and down to Earth. The amazing thing about Linda's mom is she and my mom looked and acted so much alike they could have easily been mistaken as sisters. So in that way Linda's mom was very special to me. Unfortunately she was a smoker and I think that is what may have been her undoing. My mom finally gave up smoking and lived another 33 years after Ruthmary's death. So that's the story or as much as I will tell lol.

The Stone Poneys Fri. Mar. 15th: Colgate University - Starr Hockey Rink - Hamilton, NY Sat. Mar. 16th: Eastman Theater - Rochester, NY Sun. Mar. 17th: The Back Bay Theater - Boston, MA from doorshistory.comFri. Mar. 29: The Bitter End - New York Sat. Mar. 30: The Bitter End - New York Sun. Mar. 31: The Bitter End - New York from Billboard 4/6/68 This sounds like a hard gig for Linda and the Poneys. Thanks and birthday wishes to Topanga for finding this. www.doorshistory.com/doors1968.html Fri. Mar. 15th: Colgate University - Starr Hockey Rink - Hamilton, NY The Doors open with "Break on Through" and Jim's microphone is not working properly. The band continues to play and not until the next song, "Backdoor Man", is the microphone fixed. Despite the small technical difficulty the band does an outstanding show highlighted by Krieger's great leads. Also performing: Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Poneys
Sat. Mar. 16th: Eastman Theater - Rochester, NY Also performing: Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Poneys
Sun. Mar. 17th: The Back Bay Theater - Boston, MA
<> The Doors show up two hours late to an early 4:00 p.m. show and the promoters, once notified, save the day by adding a couple local bands to this evening's agenda. They continue to placate the crowd by coming over the loud speaker throughout Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Poneys performance and announcing that The Doors are on their way. After the under bills the promoters fill space, still waiting for the band, with Doors promotional movies of "The Unknown Soldier" and "Break on Through" to a raving audience even though the controversial "Unkown Soldier" was banned from airplay on Boston's radio stations! The crowd likes the controversial movie so much they demand an encore and are obliged followed by the promoters who are now going around the theater with a live microphone getting responses from the crowd on the movie. In the meantime, The Doors equipment has been set on stage and the band comes out playing an enthusiastic "Break on Through" to a roaring crowd. Jim, however, takes his time making his way onto the stage and appears totally unaware of the crowds enduring wait and seems bored in performing yet another concert. Throughout the evening he is very dull and just goes through the motions until doing a stupid and sarcastic Boston accent on the show's final song "Light My Fire".
The Doors, thank goodness, do two shows this evening and their second at 9:30 p.m. is a total make-up for the lack luster early performance in which Jim was probably a little tired since arriving late, going right to the stage, and knowing he had another show to do. During this late performance Jim is amazingly penetrating with his screams, theatrics, and typical mysticism that he can portray by his presence alone. He is at his best tonight doing his thing like nobody else can but only, as seen tonight, when he wants or when he feels like doing it! Morrison magically blends several song's lyrics and throws in moving poetry pieces that are right on and heartfelt. Linda Ronstadt On Jim Morrison

Quote by ausfan, listing Linda's 1968 appearances:
Unless someone can tell me otherwise, those two were likely Linda's first-ever experiences with arenas. Pauley Pavillion was and is the home arena for UCLA's basketball teams; while the San Diego Sports Arena was, among other things, the home of the NBA's San Diego (now Houston) Rockets, and later the Clippers (from 1978-84).

I wonder if Linda meant Bambi vs. Godzilla. This was often an addition to those midnight movies in the 1970's and 80's. I suppose it could have been an add on to Deep Throat which was also popular on college campuses. Coincidentally the star of Deep Throat (Linda Lovelace) settled in my small hometown on Long Island where she eventually succumbed to cancer.

LINDA RONSTADT CONCERTS, PERFORMANCES & APPEARANCES Tony, would you consider making this a main category topic again on the front page sometime in the future? They kind of get lost in the mix in the discussion thread and people seemed interested in it and had things to add from their own concert experiences. I am not sure it is even possible or if it is a real pain to do that. If not and if anyone is interested all you need to do is put the YEAR in the search section above and it should pull up a thread like this for that year. I made one for most years active but I think I got a bit lax the past couple of years.
When the documentary is released we may get a lot of new visitors and old fans who might look up the years they went to see Linda and also have something to add. Just a thought.

Often universities archive things like that which might have originated with their school paper or the school yearbooks. If you find any post them here. We would all like to see them.

Welcome to the forum, Rk!!!!! I went to Concert Archives.org. They only go back to 1969 when Linda went solo. I searched stone poneys then; no results and also linda ronstadt stone poneys; no results. Erik or RFAz will probably be better able to find. Can I ask Rk, did you remain a fan and follow her music after that concert or...? eddiejinnj
