Is this specifically from the Country genre? If it was any genre then I am amazed that Enya, Jewel or Dido didn't make the list.

Just one person's opinion. I think by angelic voice, based on those selected, he chose a lot of singers with tiny voices with limited vocal range.

Just one person's opinion. I think by angelic voice, based on those selected, he chose a lot of singers with tiny voices with limited vocal range. Based on those he selected, he chose almost all country artists, and except for Collins, McLachlan and Evancho, I don't know that I'd refer to the rest as having angelic voices. I like Emmylou a lot but she has a very down to earth voice. I like Krauss and Woack too but I don't think of them as having angelic voices. I've never been able to warm to anything by Martina McBride and seeing someone saying she has an angelic voice, I almost choked on my food. Dolly? Eh? I've never been much a fan, not even with her association with Linda and Emmylou. (And is that a recent photo of her with the article? She looks terrible, like she's giving Kenny Rogers a run for his money as to which one can gross out most of their fans and the public.) It is one person's opinion but I think he was way off base, but to each their own.

I think when Linda sings with Dolly and Emmy otherwise known as the Trio they sound very angelic together.. Linda's Winterlight IMO is another example of what I imagine a choir of angels to sound like. Susan Boyle is another with that type of voice In this song, these girls also come to mind.. very angelic/heavenly

These kinds of lists tend to be arbitrary and often silly, and this was worse than most IMO...

It is indeed silly--but look on the bright side: T-Swift wasn't on the list (LOL).
And not that it necessarily matters, but Judy Collins does belong there just on the basis of her version of "Amazing Grace" itself (IMHO).

Mostly nonsense .... I like Martina but sometimes she sound like she's eating while she's singing! Alison Krauss - yeah OK ... But generally a poor/average list. Linda was definitely a huge oversight

Linda was definitely a huge oversight She has a good strong voice but I wouldn't consider Martina as an "angelic sound." Her voice is big and loud.. again, not heavenly IMO.. for the most part I'd agree with the person who wrote the article.. angelic sound being, soft, sweet and pure. I also think Emmylou fits this category.. (i think Slide did not agree) didn't Linda once describe Emmy's voice as crushed crystals? That's a good description.

While I don't think of Emmy's voice as angelic, she's got a good strong voice like Martina's. But, then, so did Linda and I considered hers to be the most angelic of all. I haven't heard all of Emmy's singing, so I can be persuaded by good examples where her voice lends itself to the angelic realm. I don't really agree very much with the idea that all country singers are angelic singers. Some are (like the late Anita Carter, Johnny's sister-in-law - what people didn't realize and missed) while others aren't, but that doesn't make them bad singers. As Damien mentioned, I wondered how Enya, like Linda ended up not being on that list? Or Sarah Brightman for that matter? One could also make a case for some of the female artists in the pop, rock and soul categories. I'd also would be willing to make a case for actress Meryl Streep, who is not a bad singer. And what of male voices that some might find as angelic?

It was actually "cracked crystal", but close enough. Linda is right, of course.
With respect to Martina, yes, there are times when she is trying too hard to sound big and bold. Truth be told, it does bother me. That said, though, on her 2014 album Everlasting, she did dial down the volume for, among other things, her take on "Just A Little Bit Of Rain."
This is strictly my opinion, but I think the definition of what makes a voice "angelic" is for that voice to have a fairly wide range, and for the songstress in question to know precisely when and how to use that range. Needless to say, Linda had those attributes in spades for the entire length of her career.

Hmm. well. for me angelic doesn't necessarily mean strong. When I think of a strong voice Linda definitely comes to mind.. but Linda can also sing sweetly.. She can work both. Olivia Newton John is another example of angelic.. (her singing part on John Denvers "Fly Away" for example very pretty and sweet) For males. Vince Gill has a very angelic voice so does Aaron Neville...

Dianna -- Good call on Vince Gill. His version of "Breath of Heaven" is my favorite, and, IMHO, clarifies as angelic. I know Linda has said that Aaron Neville sings with the voice of an angel. I can listen to Vince Gill over and over but I can only take Aaron in small doses.

Sam Cooke was another, and so was Elvis, for that matter. His vocal for "Love Me Tender" in his 1968 tv special had an angelic and otherworldly feel to it. I remember watching that in 1968 and thinking he was only visiting us for a very short time, that this world wasn't his home. Not every song a performer with an angelic voice did was an angelic performance but when it was, you'd know it right away.

For some reason I don't care for male falsetto voices.. Higher sounding male voices are good for me, it's when they go way up high..

Slide.. To me.. Elvis' sound is more "godly" than angelic.. lol.. no offense. LOL, none taken...in fact, I almost wrote godly myself but held back, but thought, well, some won't like that. And as I consider Linda to have been the female Elvis, that would also make her a godly singer as well. Which doesn't really bother me but I figure some would disagree and so I went a little lower in the hierarchy. Geez...I just said Linda was godly. I hope she doesn't take offense!
