I don't know about anyone else but I find myself, when I stumble onto a "200,000 songs on 4721 CD 's" infomercial (they used to be Time Life, now they are Star Vista) sticking around and seeing if Linda shows up. This is a total waste of time but strangely addictive. I just wonder if anyone else shares this character flaw! A further thought: Linda's singles, as showcased on these commercials, are good no doubt, but you don't know Linda if you don't go a little deeper. Somehow someone (like the themed broadcasts on Sirius et al) need to get back to the days of album play.

Hi, Moe -- Not sure if you are aware that Readers Digest came up with a 3-CD compilation of Linda's music. It is listed among the titles in the "Compilations" on the fan site that Tony made -- www.ronstadt-linda.com/albumsx.htm

I did purchase the Readers Digest compilation and have NO guilt about enjoying any of Linda's work...

Wow, I just admitted to someone yesterday that I actually enjoy listening to those Time/Life infomercials of "the classics".
They're like a big song medley from my childhood, and definitely a bonus when Linda comes on.

No one, not even on Sirius, seems to play album cuts. There's a station on Sirius, Classic Vinyl, that, of course, does not play Linda (that I've ever heard and I've had Sirius for years), but even so, they only play the hits from the albums of the artists that "qualify."
Makes me wonder if there is some sort of copyright thingy (BMI, ASCAP) that prevents stations from playing non-hits.

Isn't Dave Marsh a playlist advisor?

There's a station on Sirius, Classic Vinyl, that, of course, does not play Linda (that I've ever heard and I've had Sirius for years), but even so, they only play the hits from the albums of the artists that "qualify." Makes me wonder if there is some sort of copyright thingy (BMI, ASCAP) that prevents stations from playing non-hits. No copyright thingy involved. When the various music licensing agencies (BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, et al) issue licenses to radio stations (satellite and over the air), all music is covered for public broadcast. That includes the hits and misses and the album tracks and what have you. As for Dave Marsh, if he is a playlist advisor for Classic Vinyl, that speaks poorly of Sirius as I don't think radio stations should have a music critic as an advisor. They're imposing their tastes on listeners and people being people, may not agree with those choices. It's sad to read something like, seeing what satellite radio is becoming. When it was first starting, it was all the things over the air radio was not: all the songs one hadn't heard in ages. Then again, with Classic Vinyl, I think the emphasis in that genre is album rock, and that's a genre Linda was not noted for having a long air life on regular radio stations. Unlike the band she started, the Eagles, and artists like Jackson Browne, she was never perceived as an album rock artist. And really, her music genre jumping didn't help her in that regard. If she had remained within the rock genre instead of doing the (still a term I hate) American Songbook stuff, the Mexican, Broadway and regular pop material, a stronger case could be made if they were intentionally discriminating against her. But, Linda was very much like Elvis in that she sung all kinds of music, not just one. Even so, who do we petition to start a Linda Ronstadt satellite radio channel? Satellite has stations devoted to Elvis, the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, Willie Nelson and even that other guy, Frank Sinatra. But, there isn't a single channel devoted to any female artist that I'm aware of (haven't been a subscriber in some time) and think it's time Linda got her own channel. I'd like to see one for her than for some of the other female artists. She deserves it! And what a great way it would be to annoy Linda's detractors like Marsh.

So imagine there is one someday, how would you like it scheduled, and playing organised?
