This morning on WFUV in NYC. I Still Miss Someone.(what a surprise). Last Thursday they played When Will I Be Loved?. They play a lot of women some I like very much and do not hear elsewhere (Linda, Natalie Merchant, Jenny Lewis). Unfortunately they play too many mopey singers and too much Patti Smith - still glad to hear Linda twice in a few days.

We were listening to a radio station while driving on I75 and I thought they said Sunny 104.9. I said to myself I have to confirm this in case they played Linda (station mostly an a adult contemporary) and the next song that came on was "Different Drum." After the song the dj said that was the Stone Poneys headed by Miss Linda Ronstadt. Some times I feel physic I mean psychic lol!!!!! The station is Sunny 104.9 Ft Myers area FL. eddiejinnj

Tumbling Dice used as bumper music on coasttocoastam talk radio hosted by Richard Syrett. (150 minutes into the show) Average listenership 5 million. Richard commented he likes this version better than the Rolling Stones and said "does that make me a bad guy???"

Tonight I heard "Get Closer" on the Sirius XM '80s station. This surprised me because I have maintained that Linda was nowhere on the 80s station playlist. But I was right. Turns out they were playing a Top 40 countdown from this week or some week in 1982. THe 80s station never plays Linda Ronstadt unless they are counting down the Top 40 from some week when she had a hit. Someday I will get around to cancelling this worthless service.

This morning at 4:51 AM (yes, I was awake that early for it) on KSWD 100.3 FM ("The Sound"), which is soon to be defunct (the powers-that-be are turning it into a freaking Contemporary Christian Music station!), they played "Tumbling Dice".

Some might say well they turned a station into a freaking adult contemporary vs top 40 or rock and our Linda is on "Adult" stations. Just playing "Devil's advocate". WJRZ at the shore here was a top 40 station for years then it went to what some call "oldies". I like the station but some might say that ruined the freaking station. eddiejinnj

Another negative thought here.
This weekend I heard "Mental Revenge" by Linda Ronstadt on the Sirius-XM Outlaw Country Channel.
As I've said before, they don't play Linda much on this channel, even though she has a ton of material (solo and guest) that would be ideal for this station if they would listen.
A lot of the artists on that channel are a clique. They're sort of a family and you have to fit in their clique. Linda somehow doesn't belong, but they do welcome her for a visit when there is a funeral. In fact, the last three times I have heard Linda on this station were because they were playing her song to honor someone who recently died:
I Knew You When - to honor the passing of Joe South, who was one of my favorite singer/songwriters in the late '60s, early '70s
Back in the USA - on a special program to honor the songs of Chuck Berry, and this weekend
Mental Revenge - to honor the passing of singer/songwriter Mel Tillis.

Having had Sirius XM for almost ten years, I can vouch (not that he needs my voucher) for Tony's assessment. I have never — ever — heard any of Linda's '80s hits played routinely on the '80s station except, as he says, if one of those songs is during a Top 40 countdown. Get Closer? Nope. How Do I Make You? Nope. Hurt So Bad? Nope. Any of the Neville singles? Nope. Somewhere Out There? Nope. Etc.

I have never listened to Sirius XM and know little about it but just for the heck of it because of recent comments at the forum I decided to google Sirius and Dave Marsh:
I can't help but think he has a bit of influence at Sirius, which he must if he has 3 different shows. This most likely translates from little to no Ronstadt played.

Had the option of buying Sirius for the new (old) car I got to replace the one I got rear-ended in. I was curious- where would I find Linda? Obviously the answer is nowhere. I paid for the service anyway-what the hell it's only money. I did, however stumble on a program hosted by Peter Asher but all he played or talked about was British Invasion and Beatle stuff. You would think, given Peter's history, that some passing mention of Linda would come up but no luck. I guess Marsh has the memo out. At any rate I'm with the rest here-I'm not paying for another year.

To be fair to Peter Asher, his program is on the Sirius Beatles channel, so the focus is on Beatles music. I enjoy the Beatles channel very much. They have a lot of interesting programs. The only Ronstadt song I can see him playing is her version of "Good Night" ---
You can email him if you like- peterasher@siriusxm.com I sent him an email and he was considerate enough to respond back.

Tony, you make an excellent point. I wasn't really looking for him playing her stuff. I recognize that the channel is not about her I was just a little surprised that there was, given their long collaboration, not a passing mention or anecdote-kinda of like "When I worked with Linda she really liked some song or another" Anyway to change the subject there was some discussion somewhere about starting a Linda Ronstadt channel on Sirius. Who better than to host such a thing than Mr. Asher. If that happened I would be forced to hang on to my subscription.

Linda is played fairly often on the Sirius XM '70s station (though not nearly as often as KC and the Sunshine Band or Carole King, say), and, of course, Different Drum pops up frequently on their '60s channel (with Long Long Time a rare visitor), but nothing of hers ever plays as a matter of course on the '80s channel.
Linda's virtual absence from the '80s channel is suspiciously conspicuous considering the number of Top 40 hits she had in that decade. (Can't say for certain the exact number of them, but I mentioned six in my previous post.)

"Somewhere Out There" (#2, March 1987)
"Don't Know Much" (#2, December 1989)
It's actually seven, but I doubt that statistic ever entered into the thinking over at Sirius/XM.

All My Life was actually a 1990 single. Linda also got top billing on a Paul Simon single Under African Skies but I don't think it charted.
And 3 of the 7 were not covers. I just thought that needed to be said. If you count Adult Contemporary you can add several more.

She had at least 7 country hits too albeit some with the Trio.

I know that "All My Life" was a 1990 Top 40 hit as it made her the second female ever (Tina Turner hit the mark also earlier in the year I guess) to have Top 40 hits in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Both were records at the time. Cher has it now for 60's through the 2000's with 5 decades. There might be others with 4 or 5 not sure. eddiejinnj

Finally heard Linda on the Eagles Sirius channel. It's been over a week since I heard her. Either the channel and I have been out of sync or the evil J.W. has been lurking about. Anyway I heard "Crazy Arms" about 08:10 CST. I will admit at least when they do play Linda they delve a bit deeper into Linda's catalog than most. Also heard "The Last Resort" about an hour earlier-my favorite Eagles song-and one you never hear anywhere (try finding it on YouTube) So all in all a good morning and the snow is finally melting to boot.
