There will be no 'meet and greet' and understandably so. I am a little disappointed that I won't be able to meet Linda, but I understand considering the circumstances. Maybe someday. But at least I was able to speak with her for an hour and write a great article. We'll let everyone know all the details.

It was a memorable evening! Linda looked beautiful as always, was witty, funny, and modest as always of course. My mom and I got to meet up with Linda here on the forum after the talk.........no, not that Linda. Although I wish I could've met her. She did not do a 'meet and greet.' Had a wonderful time! I will post more details later.

Hi everyone. I had a wonderful time at the Wilmington DE talk. I'm sure everyone else there did as well. This was the first time I have ever seen Linda and was so impressed by her wit, beauty and complete control of the audience. I was sitting in the 8th row, a little behind our very own now famous columnist, Jason Klose and his wonderful Mom. At one point during the program, I turned around to see the entire audience riveted to Linda's every word. As I had shared with a friend, it was like she was telling the scariest ghost story ever. lol I learned from her things I had never knew. I do want to say most importantly, I thought I was impressed with her before, but after realizing that she flew cross county for this commitment given her challenges, I do believe she is the strongest person I know of. I'm fairly sure is is built of solid titanium. I was told by someone close to her that she is, simple put "amazing". I will second that.

Thanks so much for the lowdown on Wilmington. Linda's perseverance and fortitude is remarkable, considering not only her state of health, but also her sister's recent passing. She's truly an inspiration in so many ways and I'm glad you finally got to see her in person. You mean you've never seen her in concert? I imagine this was a once-in-a-lifetime (bucket list) experience for you!

You are welcome. There are others that I'm sure will give their take on it. Yes, it was my pleasure to see her Wednesday. It certainly gave me the boost I needed these days. No, I never saw her in concert. Hard to believe, being that I was in high school during the late 70's . I was the perfect demographic it. lol I went to alot of concerts, just not hers. I will say that it was somewhat surreal in that she was using her laptop and doing a Power point to her life. When she was showing a video or pictures and everyone was listening to it or looking at it she was looking at her laptop as her own life was being shown on a large screen behind her, I did tear up a couple of times. You were listening to a voice sing that no longer has the option to do so. I will say, she still has that beautiful smile that she has always had. I don't know how she does it.

I am going to do a longer post on my experience. Linda, I want to apologize I put your number on the back of mapquest directions. We have a gps but printed mapquest out in case gps did a brain f**t and I forgot the directions at the last minute. I was mad at myself. we got there like an hour before the event and went to a pub that was an old bank. for those there, that might remember, I have long light brown hair. So if you saw someone with long hair it was probably me. You can ask Mark I. I recognized him by his hair. Again, Linda, my apologies. eddiejinnj

It's kind of a double-edged sword. She never liked listening to herself, but it must be even more difficult now that she can no longer sing. I would have felt sad also seeing the "this is your life" Power Point presentation. Nonetheless, it's wonderful that you were able to be there. Yup, she does have a winning smile for sure.

I brought my mother & my friend since 6th grade to Linda at the Grand Opera House, met several folks from this discussion forum there -- had dinner at pizzeria across the street with 70sMusicFan (corrected) who'd driven down from Pennsylvania & I was recognized by eddieinnj out in the lobby pre-show. I had hoped Carol Bernotas, who'd interviewed Linda by phone on her radio show on WNTI-FM, would meet up with us but she couldn't get off work. Had also thought I might assemble a big group of Delaware friends to come but in the back of my mind I had thought Linda might cancel not just because her sister Suzy had just died but also because that published interview with David Bromberg made her sound like the disease had progressed. I am happy to report, first and foremost, that Linda looked amazeballs -- vibrant, ageless, svelte, and most of all HEALTHY. When she walked on & off stage, one could tell that she was being careful, slow, but other than that, no real outward appearance of illness, speech is still good, had only 1 or 2 moments where she forgot people's names and had John Boylan next to her to prompt her (and also to coach her on how to advance to the next slide or audio/video clip during her lecture). The last time I'd seen Linda do a similar event was in Santa Monica, California, and it was broadcast on KCET-TV (there're youtube clips of it), it was strictly Q&A with a moderator followed by audience questions. A few nights ago in Wilmington, my hometown, Linda brought a more polished audio/video presentation where she spoke uninterrupted for an hour followed by a Q&A with a moderator. After an introduction by the Smart Talk series producer, and after an introduction by David Bromberg (whose fine violin shop is one block down the street) in which he told the audience some things they didn't know about her (was nothing any of us didn't already know about her), Linda came out onstage. First thing she did was thank the audience for attending, said she's never quite sure if anybody will come when they find out she's not singing. (Indeed, the people behind me weren't happy at first when they found out they'd bought tickets to a lecture -- "We drove up from Baltimore," they told me, "We came to rock out!" They stayed, however, and weren't rude or unruly so I'm assuming they were OK with it.) She used her memoir Simple Dreams as basic outline to sketch out her trajectory; her presentation is, in fact, basically an audio version of the book with many of the same stories & photos. Where it differs from the book is the audio/video exemplifying what she was talking about. So when she showed the picture of her teenage trio with her brother Peter & sister Suzy (whose death wasn't mentioned), she clicked a button and the audience got to hear a sample. Most interesting was hearing a piece of her original demo of Different Drum, which was a SHUFFLE, then followed by a piece of the hit record version produced by Nik Venet. She also played a piece of an audiocassette from the night that Jackson Browne & Warren Zevon came over to her house to teach her Poor Poor Pitiful Me with Warren's original lyric of "she asked me if I'd beat her" -- you can hear her tell them, "I don't think I can stretch my imagination far enough to make that lyric work for me," then she turned to the Wilmington audience and joked, "This was long before Fifty Shades Of Gray." It was more or less the book: family history (grandfather, aunt Luisa Espinel), growing up in Tucson, Bobby Kimmel convincing her to move to L.A., Stone Poneys, Herb Cohen, touring with The Doors, reluctance to be a solo artist but becoming one anyway when Stone Poneys disbanded, Long Long Time saving her from obscurity, Peter Asher, You're No Good, her hand in formation of Eagles [audience gasped -- HOW DO THEY NOT ALREADY KNOW THIS!!!], album/tour/album/tour grind where her music reminded her of her laundry machine, Pirates of Penzance, Nelson Riddle, Canciones De Mi Padre, Trio album (she said both her label & Dolly's label passed on releasing it), Aaron Neville. After Aaron Neville, it's an abrupt halt as though she didn't do anything in the 1990's. My basic take-away is twofold: (1) she illustrated that all her eclecticism wasn't accidental or random but had been rooted in her childhood living room in Tucson; and (2) a ballad singer, she spent her career trying to get out of arenas & coliseums in favor of proper theaters with a curtain & proscenium stage. "You can make a lot more money in arenas," she told the audience, "Nobody around me was gonna help me make less money." At every turn where she wanted to try a foray into some new genre, someone tried to warn her she'd be wrecking her career, and every time, she found a way. Once the lecture was completed, a moderator came out to ask her own questions as well as audience questions that had been written down on index cards and collected in the lobby pre-show. I couldn't stand this moderator who alternated between gushing and wanting to talk about herself and her own failed musical career; I found this moderator to be utterly tiresome. One audience question asked what her biggest obstacle has been and she said her fear and the voices in her head that repeat that she's not good enough. She likened herself to the character in Birdman who hears voices telling him he's a piece of sh*t ("not that I'd ever use that word," she joked). Another audience question asked what it was like to work with Sinatra. Linda talked about how Sinatra was the best there ever was, said it's only Sinatra and Billie Holliday, everyone else is just drooling, said when she recorded her duet with Frank, his voice wasn't in the best of shape and so she realized that her job as a duet partner was more or less to support what Sinatra was doing (in other words, not to compete or show off), and she was told that their duet was his favorite from that album. Moderator asked her about things like auto-tune and video killing music and Linda was like, "Talent never leaves the gene pool," elaborating that eventually an audience will catch on if a performer doesn't have talent, insisting that nobody can sustain a career without it, used Beyoncé to exemplify as someone who has an image but who has talent to back it up, also brought up Taylor Swift's name, said, "Not a great voice but has a lot of talent," then added, "I don't throw up when she's playing in my daughter's car." The overriding theme of the night, apart from her assertion that her musical choices weren't random, is that she wanted to get out of the arenas and coliseums to play theaters, but her challenge had been everyone around her telling her she'd wreck her career ("you make a lot of money in arenas and nobody was gonna help me make less money"). That's pretty much what I remember offhand. not a very good iphone photo of Linda onstage at the Grand Opera House, Wilmington, Delaware, with her longtime friend John Boylan (and my former UCLA Extension teacher). 5/13/2015 Linda Ronstadt's audience in Wilmington. You can see why Linda wanted to get out of the arenas in favor of beautiful theaters such as the Grand Grand Opera House, built in 1871, Wilmington, Delaware, my hometown. Have seen so many memorable shows here over the years, Linda's recent lecture being most recent. In mid-80's, I saw Bonnie Raitt here when she no longer had a record label or a band, pre-Nick Of Time & thus pre-mainstream success, just her and Johnny Lee Schell. And I saw Kristofferson here too, another of my musical heroes. Saw Emmylou Harris there just a few months ago.

in Mark's audience photo, you can just make me out. if you look at the rt exit sign lit up. then look to the left and see the first brown support pole. you can just make out my long hair under the woman with a black v-neck outfit on. I took pics of the interior of the place and exterior. I took a pic of the linda simple dreams projection but turned my phone off when the performance started. mark sat about where I sat but the opposite side so I didn't quite get to see Linda's face as much. I wanted to add the she was actually sitting up in seat in an attentive position leaning in to talk to the audience at times. it was a very comfortable evening.
I liked when she played an audio of her dad singing. to me it seemed like wow she is really talking quite awhile but then she said well that is about it and she was up to the Neville years. as for the moderator section, I thought it a little disjointed and to be honest there were not enough audience questions read and answered. it was only then that her illness came up. to be honest, lol, I put in like 7 or 8 questions including one that said this is not a question but condolences for losing her sister. I did ask if she knew about the forum. I asked when is trio 3 expected to be out. I asked if there are any tracks with ann savoy that have not been released yet. I will think of the rest later. the show was well worth the 2 hour drive. Loved it Linda!!!!! eddiejinnj

Actually, I (70sMusicFan) was the Forum member who had dinner with Mark Islam. Mark regaled me with many stories of the music business and Linda's contemporaries (Mark could give his own presentation).
I agree with everyone that the presentation was amazing and mostly from the book. If someone from Simon & Schuster reads this, I would think having Linda expand this presentation to a couple of hours and videotape it for sale on DVD would be great - a wonderful alternative to the "read by author" book-on-tape we will never get.
She seems to have lost lots of weight and looked really good in her typical black leggings and oversized black knitted top. Her face and figure seemed more reminiscent of her younger self than the past few times I've seen her. Despite her great looks/appearance, I disagree with the few who spoke so far that her health looked good. I thought Linda's health APPEARS TO ME to have deteriorated since I saw her last - which was on the Washington DC Mall. I hope I'm wrong, and everyone else is right.
To me, most of the audience questions were lame, but Linda answered them as honestly and graciously as possible. Another major point I got from the Q&A was how grateful she was to have had and raised her adopted children.

if you look across the people on the floor and see the last pole on the right (it has gilding on the top) I am 1/4" (based on pic size) to the left of the pole in the second row. there is a woman behind me with her hair pulled back and has a v neck black top on. she is under a light more than I am. I have longish light brown hair I usually wear that you can't tell I have long hair or a hat but wear it down for such occasions. Pitt and I are the same age though I have much better skin. Bradley is a cool name. i'd love if they had these talks like once or twice a year. eddiejinnj

That would be really fun, Linda. Let me know what you guys decide to do. I don't drive, so NYC or some place accessible by public transportation would be best for me. It's nice that some of you got to meet in Wilmington in addition to seeing the talk!

Thank you for the overview of the Linda Ronstadt appearance last week. It seems to be a wonderful presentation. Denver and Wilmington?? Is that it?Although she is slower and mobility not so easy - still seems a limited number of talks for someone so fascinating. Would very much like her to come back to New York and/or Chicago.
