Which of Linda's albums have been properly remastered? Some are in desperate need of it.. Such as Hasten Down The Wind.. I just recently noticed the claps in The Tattler.. And that was because I had a great pair of headphones on and cranked it up..

I believe that only Linda's Capitol Records albums have been remastered. Her Elektra Asylum (EA) catalog should have been done in the 90s when almost every major artist's recordings were done and reissued. However, I think the EA tracks on the 1999 box set are remastered.

Which, in my opinion, begs the question: Why is E/A treating Linda and her discography in such a shabby way? She was probably the label's biggest-selling single solo artist, female or otherwise, for so many years. And yet, not only have her E/A albums not been remastered, some of them, notably the latter albums, probably due to the fact that they sold so little, have long since gone out of print. This is a detestable way of treating her, as far as I'm concerned.

none of them sold that poor maybe we ran by her pop album sales figures that they should not be remastered. it is detestable. there seems to be a lot of new interest in her incredible talents; most notably am talking about Damien a very welcome new fan. I kind of envy him in a way and he is doing it imo in a great way. taking his time listening to the albums. I would love to hear linda stuff as if it was new to me again. eddiejinnj

For albums to be out of print, for any artist, is not unusual in the 21st Century. CD sales are on a massive downward slide-- young people, the major music buyers, purchase downloads. The CD racks at Walmart have almost disappeared, ceding their valuable retail space to DVD and Blu-ray. So it really doesn't make good financial sense to keep most catalog CDs in print unless they are major sellers. Of course, the albums Don't Cry Now through Living in the USA have been remastered by outside sources (Audio Fidelity and Mobile Fidelity) who have licensed these titles.
Remastered titles have been released in other countries, notably Japan, but I haven't found them to be more listenable that the original releases. Many of them have just been remastered "louder"- I can turn the volume up myself. I could be mistaken, but to my ears, I think they have ruined the dynamic range on many of these albums, which may be an improvement for listening in the car, but not for listening in Hi-Fi, as a geezer such as myself might do.
(I would like to see them reissue the Christmas CD with a different cover.)

Elektra don't care .... Her name is spelled incorrectly on their website if you can believe that! She must be one of their biggest selling artists and they can't even be bothered to spell her name correctly. Shameful

They claim LR GH 1 sold 7 million US and over 20 million copies worldwide. I didn't know that.

I couldn't find a way to contact them without joining site to tell them of the gross misspelling. eddiejinnj

I was in my local SuperWalMart this weekend, and they have 16 linear feet of space for displaying CDs, about 1/6th of what they once had. They had three Ronstadt titles in stock, one copy each of Duets, What's New, and Greatest Hits Vol 1.

not a bad representation since cd displays are greatly reduced. eddiejinnj

I listened to the BGO English Digital Remaster of Homegrown, Silk Purse, and LR in the car on a long road trip today (purchased from Amazon last week). It does sound like the music has been cleaned up and the instruments separated more left/right (for example, Linda is clearly coming from one side while the background duet vocalist is coming out of the other). This might be interesting to listen to with headphones.

Time for the latest in a continuing series of dumb questions: What exactly is remastering? How far back into the process of producing a copy does it go? My guess is that you take the archived tape that the engineer (and in Linda's case-artist) mixed a long time ago to make a new production tape off which all the CD's and mp3's? for sale are copied from. Am I close?

Heart Like A Wheel was remastered. It also had two extra tracks thrown in as well.
I would love for them to remaster her catalogue! Can you imagine hearing Mad Love remastered? I can!
