There are several instances on some of Linda's live bootleg recordings from 90s where, in the middle of a run of standards, she/we have to listen to some idiot shouting out "sing Heatwave!" or something else from 70s ..... not polite behaviour in my book!
Not polite behavior but people go to concerts expecting to hear the big hits. Even if it's the 25th time they've seen the artist in concert, they still expect to hear those hits. Musical artists have to have some cognizance of what their fans are expecting from one of their concerts, especially as ticket prices have only gotten ridiculously more and more expensive.I can see where asking a fan to pay what could be the rent or car payment or whatever for a ticket to see the artist in a 90-120 minute concert with a set list that included very few hits might be upsetting if they're expecting to hear the hits. It's better, I think, for an artist to say something upfront that a concert isn't going to be a rehash of the same old hits for the millionth time and that a concert is going to be different from previous concerts they've given. One can't be disappointed if they know in advance that a concert is going to focus more on what the artist is doing now or has done recently.
My disclaimer: any Linda concert I would've gone to, she could've sung the phone book or a setlist of totally unknown songs or the big band stuff or what have you. I would have been okay with hearing a few hits or a few hits performed as a medley, as concerts were generally tied into a recently released album by the artist, and I've been to concerts where the set list was the hits and almost nothing else. I've always wanted to hear the new songs in concert and not an artist having to sing something they may be tired and bored of singing, but the audience won't allow them to retire the song.
