Dianna, I only know Linda from hanging out at Pirates of Penzance. I guess she appreciated my loyalty as a fan. Honestly, I felt kind of guilty that she went out of her way because it was such a hardship for her to write even at that time. I was really shocked that she remembered me after so many years and certainly didn't expect (or deserve) the "VIP" treatment. Still, that had to be a very nice and pleasant surprise for you. To be remembered by Linda (or anyone), whom you only met briefly after so long a time is an incredible and awesome experience. No doubt the many of us who have never met Linda wished we could've had that happen to us. Linda's remembering you after 30 years kind of makes me believe that she has a photographic memory. I'm envious as living in Oklahoma doesn't afford that kind of opportunity to meet someone like Linda. Cherish that memory.

I saw her at a concert/radio interview she did in the mid 2000's at the relatively small Herbst Theater in San Francisco. There was a Q and A session and I was the first person in the audience to raise my hand. I told her how much I loved her version of Rambler Gambler and that I had hoped it would be on her box set since it was so hard to find. She said "I forgot about that one. You should have called and reminded me." My actual question was how she came to pick a slower version of the song (which I love and prefer), and she said she was playing guitar on it and that was as fast as she could play.
A funnier story is some guy in the audience told her he saw her at a concert in NY in the 90s and she sang Different Drum. She said, "I haven't sang Different Drum in concert for decades." He said, "Yes, you did. I remember it clearly." She said, "Um...did you have a question?"

Yes of course, I appreciated it more than words can say and cherish all the wonderful memories! I agree that Linda's memory is extremely sharp (except when she was on tour and would forget what city she was in--LOL)!! As I mentioned before, I knew I had to seize the moment to try and meet her when she was in Pirates because these opportunities don't come along very often. I hope you have the chance to meet her at some point--you never know.

Eddie. I received my tickets a couple of weeks ago and noticed it said that on the tickets. I think they are on to something ? I am really looking forward to the Delaware show. Are you going to ask her a question ?

I'm sure she met hundreds- thousands of people /fans and it's quite extraordinary she remembered you.. that's why I asked if you worked at the venue as I assumed you saw each other quite a bit. but sometimes, even at first meeting, people have a strong connection.

As I mentioned before, I knew I had to seize the moment to try and meet her when she was in Pirates because these opportunities don't come along very often. I hope you have the chance to meet her at some point--you never know. Anything is possible. I do know that her cousin, David Lindley, is from Oklahoma and last I heard, had moved back. Also, after Linda announced she had Parkinson's, it was speculated by one of the tv stations that she might come to Oklahoma to be treated for the disease as one of the hospitals in central Oklahoma is a research hospital and one of the many diseases they were looking into was Parkinson's. But, if she came to visit her cousin or came to the hospital to be treated, chances are such visits would be unannounced so her privacy wouldn't be compromised by the fans and she could get done what needed to be done. Of course, I'd be blown away if I met her. But, I'd be even more blown away if I met her and didn't recognize her. People sometimes look different from their photos, sometimes to the point of looking like a totally different person. I think actor Kevin Costner was on a flight from England to the US and on the same flight was actress Hayley Mills, whom he had always wanted to meet. He didn't recognize her at all and had said he thought she was just some blonde smoking a cigarette. Someone pointed her out to him when the flight landed and he couldn't believe that he hadn't recognized her. A missed opportunity. As for Linda not remembering which city she was in while on tour, that seems to have been a very common thing among most performers. And the reason for that was the performers said they rarely saw anything outside of their hotel rooms and the concert stages. They'd get into the hotel in time to sleep and maybe eat, but not enough time to do anything else in. Being on tour was not what it was cracked up to be and many performers would rather not have toured at all.

(my memory is bad with dates) Anyway, it was the end of the show and we were walking out the outdoor venue I was holding on to the railing to fix my shoe. all of a sudden people next to me were pointing down.. there was Linda a few feet down getting into a white suv.. she was pretty close.. of course still in heavy makeup and bright lipstick, to me she looks the same profile and all lol.. very attractive lady. I did notice she kept her hand stretched out on the passenger door. I could see her hand sitting there. and boy she is not a person that fidgets.. she sits very still and calm.. lol I think you'd recognize her Slide..

I suppose it's flattering if I don't look that different, but it's hard to be objective. I'm barely over 5' tall and still weigh 90 lbs. soaking wet, so I guess I wasn't that intimidating.

But, my ideal meeting would be spending some time with her, more like a date than a meet and greet, get an autograph and goodbye type of meeting. But, I'm just not that lucky.

I was being facetious about her not remembering where she was on tour. I know these schedules are grueling and exhausting. As for Oklahoma or anywhere else, it's always possible that she may add on some cities for upcoming appearances. Looking forward to hearing from Eddie and Linda about Wilmington. It's possible, her health permitting but I think she'd be more inclined to make an appearance in Dallas than in any Oklahoma location. Dallas is close, a three to four hour drive by car or traveling by train, or a forty-five minute flight (assuming there are no flight delays) and it would be doable. I'd have to schedule a couple of days vacation if it conflicted with my job by taking place on a weekday. A weekend appearance would pose no problems although hopefully, there would be word of the appearance enough in advance to make the time to see her and meet her. It used to be possible to get a copy of the Dallas Morning News anywhere in Oklahoma, although we haven't been able to get a copy in years. And it was a good paper to have in getting word of coming events in Dallas, and they even promoted coming events in Oklahoma City and Tulsa which was more than I could say for the papers in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

I saw her at the National Book Festival in 2013 (?) in Washington DC and that was the thrill of the lifetime. Just to see her be there shortly after her disclosure of Parkinson's (curse you Parkinson's!) was goose-pimple inducing indeed. She looked and sounded amazing and was very funny too.
She was to have a book signing shortly after the talk but unfortunatley, she had to cut it short because she was not feeling well (understandable). Though disappointed as that would have been the first (and only) time to meet her, it still was beyond words to be near an amazing, singing legend.
I wouldn't know what I would have asked her if I had the chance. But I would thank her for the great music she gave us.

Guys and Gals- If you check out this website, www.smarttalkwomen.com I think you will find any upcoming dates that Linda may have in the future. She is listed as one of their speakers. It appears that she is contracted through them for appearances. It just lists the May appearance in Wilmington DE right now, but I think that is the site to look for any further bookings for her. I hope this helps.

I just watched that interview on uTube last night. Yes, she was certainly on her A game that day. It was a great interview. She doesn't shy away from any drug use questions. lol You were lucky to have seen her there. Can't blame her for cutting her time short there. As a fellow Parkinson's person, fatigue is a big and ongoing problem.

I had answered Linda a few days ago but the post didn't go through. I think it a good idea to call and see if a group of us could meet her. As far as asking a question; if my nerves don't get the best of me and I can just think of the audience as just another fan like me I might be able to get my butt up to the mic. It would be a memorable experience to say the least. eddiejinnj

I think it would be a great idea if you asked her a question. Everyone says she is very down to earth. That in it's self should be enough to take your fears away. Besides, I'm fairly confident that she is used to any kind of reaction to talking to her.

I've met Linda once, but because of my sort of crazy level of fanship, there have been many times people have been dragged across rooms being told they've "just got to tell Don that story." My friend's dad who went to high school with her, a roadie who ate breakfast with her every morning and a UA dept of music student (who didn't really know anything about her when they met) are my favorites. The take seems to that in small/private settings when the focus in on the other person she's incredibly kind, I've heard sweet, soft spoken, earnest, interested etc. But she clearly doesn't like being the focus of attention especially if she smells hero worship: she doesn't seem to like it and can't hardly hide the fact.

Well, I have to say I saw this coming. You can't expect her to be 100% completely nice. No one is , really. It is refreshing to hear that her level of niceness comes to a halt when she feels it becomes too much about her in lieu of not enough about her. I know its a stretch for some fans, but she is only human. Just like you or I.

No point in denying that. I for one wouldn't even know what to say if I ever got the chance to meet her. It's hard for some to understand, but that's just the way it is.

Likewise, I wouldn't know what to say if I was to meet her, though I'd do my best to talk to her like a normal person and not like she was a celebrity. I've always been friends with musicians, so that might be a conversation breaker. I'm also a lousy guitar player(haven't worked on my playing in a while) and a not too bad singer and have written songs, so that might be another lead-in as well. But, I'd want Linda to know she was in the presence of someone who would be very respectful of her and someone who she could regard as a friend.

I doubt you would run out of interesting things to say and let's face we all know which side our girl leans.

Well, it's one thing to slap down a right-wing troll on this board armed with the facts, and, in my humble opinion, quite another to get into a conversation with someone you've only ever admired from a distance. Truth be told, I would be kind of tongue-tied.

Of course, we would rather meet famous people we admire in more ideal circumstances outside of fan hood. It's hard not to be nervous and tongue-tied but I try not to gush over celebs that I have come across as an NYC dweller. I was just happy that Linda turned out to be a decent, down-to-earth human being instead of an obnoxious, pretentious jerk. She appeared to be very genuine and approachable from her persona in concert and interviews, so I'm glad my overall impression turned out to be correct.
