Not surprising as the song was inspired by KC Royal HOF George Brett..

Yes, I had heard about that; but even for the World Series, this is weird. Maybe oldies radio stations in KC will ban Scott McKenzie's "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair)" in return (LOL).

KC and SF don't really have much of a history to base a rivalry upon; just stirring up some commotion, IMO...

True, unlike the Giants rivalry with the Dodgers, which goes all the way back to when both were in New York but which intensified when both moved out West.
But one person who will benefit from all this brouhaha, I suspect, will be the good Lorde herself (LOL).

I think some people may disagree on the intensity of the rivalry on the West Coast v. the East. Fistfights in the Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field were not uncommon when the teams played each other...

I suppose so. Now it's just a media-inspired hype thing, at least here in L.A.

Erik, there are reporting on this on the local Los Angeles stations, as you probably well know. I asked my San Francisco friends about this. They said it is on the local news stations in San Francisco, too. One friend, who is a huge S.F. Giants' fan, said that one of the local newscasters said that if one listens to the lyrics that the song is actually "anti-royal."
I don't think all radio stations are not playing the song. This is not like Henry Miller's books being "banned in Boston." It is a silly thing. I remember reading a Tweet from journalist Jeff Greenfield that said: " Can't wait for the massive media coverage of the totally non-existent historical rivalry between the SF Giants and the KC Royals."

He's likely right. This is probably not a World Series that's going to be remembered, by anybody, unless it goes the full seven games...and maybe not even then (IMHO).
