Interesting, thanks for posting. It is ironic that Linda was an influence on Diana's parents and therefore on her, given her husband's unkind comments on Linda some years ago. Elvis did recant his opinion a few years ago calling her a 'great lady' (I wish I had that video clip). I think that Elvis' comments should be viewed in a wider context as he made many inflammatory comments, most notoriously a racial slur about Ray Charles. (Alcohol is known to loosen tongues).
Diana's take on Desperado is a pleasant, more contemplative take on the song. I still consider Linda's version definitive, of course..

Superstar (at least the one on the album) was written by Leon Russell and recorded by The Carpenters.

Superstar (at least the one on the album) was written by Leon Russell and recorded by The Carpenters. Actually, "Superstar" was cowritten by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett, and recorded by her with her late, ex-husband, Delaney. before the Carpenters recorded their hit version. Delaney and Bonnie's version is on youtube. Most people who remember the tune think it was a tune original to the Carpenters rather than a very successful cover version.

Elvis Costello had a recent apperance at the Hollywood Bowl. I was told that he dedicated Alison to Linda and said that if it hadn't been for her he might never had had a second record. There was an article about the show somewhere out there. Clearly he was a young punk and has grown-up. I also think Linda's Party Girl, especially, the live version was phenomenal. Linda commented in Goldmine this year on her pleasure and intensity singing that particular tune.

Yes, but I kind of wish it hadn't taken him that long to do it.

I noticed in the USA Today article that it says she sings "I Can't Tell You Why" by The Eagles, and then later on it says that she sings a Paul McCartney song called "I Can't Tell You Why." I have a feeling that the McCartney tune has a different title because I don't see two songs with the same name of "I Can't Tell You Why" in the track listing.
Dianna, I started this thread and my point was to connect Diana's version of "Desperado" to Linda (this being a Linda board) not only due to what was said in the USA Today article about Diana's parents liking Linda, but also, for those who may not have remembered, that Diana Krall is married to Elvis Costello. I then said something to the effect that I believed Elvis had mellowed. All I said. I don't think there is anything wrong with those of us who are older to have long memories and who lived through all of Linda's career to be able to make the slightest reference to something in the past. I didn't regurgitate the whole history with links with the actual quotes by Costello.

Just heard on the news that Diana Krall has a severe case of pneumonia and has been forced to cancel the tour she'd planned to support the release of "Wallflower." The date at L.A.'s Walt Disney Concert Hall is canceled.

the release of the album has been bumped to February / March 2015 too .... oh dear Fab, I am guessing because of Krall's pneumonia and inability to tour/promote the album, she and her team have decided to just postpone the release until she is well enough to do concert dates, appear on late-night shows, etc.
