Sometime next month a new bio of Linda Ronstadt should be published. I am told it has 60 color photographs included. And is current right up through Linda's recent acceptance of the Medal of Arts Award presented by Obama.

Not that that photo isn't anything but spectacular one would think that something more "rock" would have been used. That is too glamorous. I think her photos from FM or the Mad Love tour would be more fitting.

I thought that was a sweater dress? I thought she had leggings on with that sweater. The cover looks like she has pants on with it but is same photo imo that I have seen. She just a cute rocker there lol. Look at that smile; it beams!!! 60 photos - nice. Must buy for me!!! Thanks Tony for reminding us. eddiejinnj

Not to mention it has been used before for the cover of an unofficial biography about Linda in the late 80's early 90's. Mark Bego comes to mind? I may have the spelling wrong on authors last name. The photo as a cover was tired then and its tired now!

oh sorry, I just like to see the title of the award. It really is a big deal. Considering the plethora of people in the Arts, she got an award she deserves. I thought presented by was very impressive sounding. tell me before I look it up if anybody knows, is the President involved in the nomination process? I know there is a committee that does this or oversees this. I can look it up. Just wondered if anybody knew. eddiejinnj

I have that book. it is a good book. it is a different pose than the new book but same outfit. on the Bego cover (it says he lives in Tucson) it looks like they are leggings/stockings like I said before. eddiejinnj

I'm curious as to what kind of biography this book will be. I tried looking it up on amazon the other day and couldn't find a listing for it. Just looking at the cover, I'm kind of concerned this book will be a hack project and maybe not a book worth spending one's money on. The phrase at the top of the book, "Legendary American Divas" suggests it is a series of books, and Linda just happens to be one of the female artists being covered. Books like that tend to be a generic accounting of the person in question, no personal research and stories borrowed from fanzines, tabloids and newspaper accounts. Even wikipedia or internet websites on Linda. It might be worth having the book for the 60 color photographs but I don't have any high expectations for this book being a serious companion biography to Linda's own autobiography. At least it may not be a biography that's a hatchet job, although there may be a hatchet biographer out there trying to find some dirt on Linda for his or her book.

The introduction to the book was written by the other surviving Stone Poney.

Lord knows I love Linda but wasn't Barbra Streisand the most successful female singer in the 1970's? Even Olivia Newton-John had more successful Top 40 hits. Linda certainly had great success with album sales but I am curious how they define what makes her the most successful?

Perhaps they also include concert venue sales? Linda was THE female concert draw in the '70s, certainly outdrawing Streisand (who didn't "tour") and Newton-John, who did, but not with the huge success of Ronstadt.

it was her album sales and concert draw that made her number one for the 70's. She had more platinum albums than any other female and also they were in a row. it was the 70's and 80's that brought Linda up to number 2 saleswise overall for a female artist (behind Streisand). Streisand had more sales than Linda in the 60's. Linda was number 2 for at least 10-15 years. eddiejinnj

And one must also remember that it was Linda who became the very first female artist ever to have four consecutive studio albums sell at least one million copies to go Platinum. Babs did get four consecutive Platinum albums herself, but by that time, Linda had widened her streak to seven.

If going by the RIAA, Linda handily won the 70s because many of her albums from "Heart Like a Wheel" onward, were certified gold or platinum at the time. Some of Barbra's 70s recordings would be certified gold or platinum (which as an award, didn't come into existence until around '76 or 78) in the 80s and 90s. The question on those albums would be when did they reach the gold or platinum plateau? When they were released and Barbra's label was just lax on the certifications? Or did it take that long for the gold and platinum levels to be reached? It could be the albums reached the gold or platinum plateau when they were released but her record label just didn't submit them for the certifications at the time. Much like Linda's US albums sales total at present according to the RIAA is 30 million, although it's said that she has sold at least an additional 15 million, and possibly even more. But, neither Capitol nor Asylum/Warners (her two major labels) have sought additional certifications on her behalf which would up her totals. The RIAA charges quite a bit of money for the certification audits and as Linda is no longer signed to either label, certifications on her behalf are likely not a high priority. Olivia, by contrast, was a little lower on the album sales (14 million) than either Linda (30 million) or Barbra (71.5 million), although like Linda and Barbra, those figures haven't changed in quite some time.

Linda is NOT a Diva, and hopefully it's not some trashy book. Sounds like the photos may be worthwhile, though.

Linda is NOT a Diva, and hopefully it's not some trashy book. Sounds like the photos may be worthwhile, though. My thoughts exactly. Personally, I don't care for the title of this book at all.........certainly not what I would've chosen. Linda is not a diva, never was, never will be. And being rock's first female superstar.........that may be true in some ways. But knowing Linda's disdain for much of her '70s work, I don't imagine she would be too fond of the title either. As she has said before.......she was not a rock and roll singer.......she's a singer who could sing rock and roll, among numerous other styles of music. And she has said that rock and roll music alone did not define her. It is the Mexican and standards albums that will be her greatest legacy. I have spoken to Mark Watson, the author of this book a couple of times. But I don't think I will purchase this book until I read some reviews from other buyers first. I just can't imagine we're going to learn any more from this book than we already know about Linda. Sure, the pictures might be nice......but not sure it will be worth buying it for that alone. Plus the book is only 138 pages, much shorter than the biography of Linda that was published in 1990. Also shorter than Linda's memoir.

This new book is now for sale at Barnes and Noble as well as amazon.com. Direct links are on the main website. The author told me this book was originally written as a "young reader" book.

"Young reader". That is exactly who this book seems to be geared to. Reading the intro and looking at that happy cover photo it appears sweet and appreciative. The publisher is a self-publishing entity. Reminds me of one of the paperbacks from the early 1980s. Will buy it as a gift for a friends daughter who is 14 and plays acoustic guitar.

My copy of the Linda Ronstadt book arrived today. I am only a couple of chapters into it, but I am enjoying it so far. Stylistically it's a lot more interesting than the Bego book, which to me was very dry and hard to get into. Some interesting facts that I wasn't aware of. I notice that he cites Linda's birth name as "Maria Linda" so I assume he has some source for that.

I notice that he cites Linda's birth name as "Maria Linda" so I assume he has some source for that. Which brings us to the bullshit online source that is Linda Ronstadt's Wikipedia. From the very first line of the Wikipedia bio the name is sourced as Linda Maria. When an article begins with an inaccurate statement, how can one trust the rest of the article? Any effort to correct this is considered "vandalism" so they found some incorrect source that they could footnote, and have locked the page so only the bullshitters can update it. Linda's Wikipedia=bullshit.

At one time it was changed to Maria Linda on wiki and within a week or less it was changed back to Linda Maria. It may be that for the record the bio page should be listed first as the name that made her famous and the one she goes by but I don't see why there can't be an insert that mentions she was born Maria Linda but is better known as Linda .... or something like that.

Linda's wikipedia entry is not blocked or locked as I have made contributions to her page, and I am not a bullsh*tter. Most of my contributions were minor edits. Just because you disagree with someone and you think something is one way (in this case, Linda's name) and they have it the other way, doesn't make what they say BS. My guess would be Linda's wikipedia entry page was created by and is maintained by someone who knows her, maybe a publicist or a member of her family. I lean towards a publicist because it doesn't look like the writing of an amateur writer. Wikipedia does require documentation for some things and a person's actual name may be one of them. If you didn't have proof to backup what you claim, it wouldn't stand and that may be why Maria Linda didn't remain. Linda's name has been given as Linda Maria throughout all of her public career and I have never seen it listed as Maria Linda until just in the past year or so. I've never seen or heard anyone ask Linda about her name or heard or seen Linda correct someone about her first and middle name. I don't know Linda personally (wish I did) but if someone were to ask Linda her correct birth name, and she said it was Linda Maria, would you have the audacity and nerve to say she was BS-ing, that you knew for a fact it was Maria Linda? Someone here once produced a photo copy of car papers on a car Linda owned, which I believed showed her name as Linda M Ronstadt. I don't know, haven't looked at it in a while. But, I suppose the only way outside of asking Linda about her first and middle names (and she'd probably look at the person like they were crazy) would be obtaining a copy of her birth certificate, but some people will deny anything, even a birth certificate.
