I was walking around today with the song "Hasten Down the Wind" in my head and I recalled this thread about the meaning of the title. Occurred to me for the first time that it has two different meanings. In the first verse, where "she tells him she thinks she wants to be free," he's telling her to go find what she's looking for. He wants her to be happy. But in the second verse, where "it's just a whim that she's designed to keep him out there on that limb," it means "get lost." He's had enough. Which means that it's an even better, more complex song than I realized.

I love this song, it’s sung simply but extremely well. The change in the meaning of the song in the second verse is quite masterful

Kind of like "watch what you wish for". It just fits in so well with the other songs on HDTW. eddiejinnj
